Gorillas, the Zoo, and the Association of Realtors

At the start of 2019, The Santa Barbara Association of Realtors teamed up with the Santa Barbara Zoo in a joint effort to help save the endangered gorillas in the wild.

Did you know that the mining of Coltan, a mineral used in many electronic devices, is destroying gorilla habitats in Africa? In order to help minimize mining and help the endangered Gorilla population, the Santa Barbara Zoo is hosting the Gorillas on the Line campaign to recycle old cell phones.

If you have an old cell phone that you are no longer using, please consider recycling it for the cause. There are boxes located at the Santa Barbara and Montecito Village Properties offices for easy drop-off. It’s a simple act that can make a lasting impact on these beautiful creatures that desperately need our help.

Acceptable items for the campaign include: cell phones, smartphones, MP3 players, tablets, hand-held game devices, adapters, and chargers. By recycling electronics, the demand for coltan is decreased and the gorillas natural habitat can work to be preserved.

We’d like to take this opportunity to recognize the Village Properties agents who are serving on the campaign: Committee Chair: Brianna Johnson, Members: Brittany LoughErin TimmermanDavid Magid, Candace Cavaletto, and Kristin Hall.

Thank you for all that you are doing for these animals in need, your dedication and commitment will certainly make a difference in their lives!
